Gor Mahia’s Blunder: Omala Fails to Secure Multimillion-Dollar Deal with Algeria’s JS Sauora

Gor Mahia’s prolific striker Benson Omala will remain with the Kenyan Premier League club and will not join JS Sauora of Algeria as expected.

Gor Mahia had earlier announced that the 22-year-old Kenyan international would join JS Sauora on a six-month loan deal, but the deal reportedly fell through at the last minute on Monday.

It is still unclear why the promising deal fell apart, but reports indicate that the unavailability of foreign slots at the North African club thwarted the transfer. Additionally, it is reported that JS Sauora turned their attention to another Cameroonian striker after Gor Mahia’s approval was delayed in arriving.

This means that the highly-rated striker will stay with Gor Mahia until the end of the 2023/24 season when another transfer may be proposed.

On Monday, the Kenyan league leaders had announced that the 22-year-old striker would leave the club on loan.

“ANNOUNCEMENT: Our striker Benson Omolla is moving to Saoura FC of Algeria on a loan deal. All the best Omalla,” Gor Mahia announced via social media.

If the deal had gone through, K’Ogalo would have pocketed over Ksh3.2 million from the loan deal, with Omala expected to receive a total salary of $8,000 (Ksh 1.3 million) every month once the deal was signed.
