Record Kenyan Premier League champions Gor Mahia partnered with AAR insurance company on Thursday to provide medical cover to its players.
In the deal, betting firm SportPesa, Gor shirt sponsors, will pay Sh2m per year for a cover set to take three years.
The deal comes days before Kenyan Premier League traditional giants Gor Mahia and AFC Leopards strain their nerves for bragging rights at Nyayo Stadium on Sunday.
This will be the 95th Mashemeji Derby between the country’s most successful clubs, who have 32 league titles between them.
K’Ogalo has won 34 times, Leopards have emerged victorious on 28 occasions, and 32 ties have ended in draws.
Speaking ahead of the much-awaited game, AFC leopards tactician Patrick Aussems remained optimistic about garnering maximum points.
“Beating Kenya Police gave us the much-needed confidence boost going into the derby,” Aussems said.
“We are eager to break our jinx in the derby and beat Gor because it has been a long time since we won a match against them,” he added.
On the other end, Gor head coach Jonathan McKinstry expects his team to shine in the derby after a string of impressive performances in recent weeks.
“I’m glad the players we brought in from the youth team are already gelling with their senior teammates and getting things done.
