Golden Africa Kenya achieves FSSC 22000 certification

Golden Africa Kenya Limited has proudly joined the ranks of a select few edible oil refining companies in Kenya to achieve the internationally acclaimed FSSC 22000 certification, setting a new benchmark in the country’s food manufacturing sector. This significant milestone underscores the company’s unwavering commitment to food safety, quality assurance, and operational excellence.

Established in 2015, Golden Africa Kenya Ltd (GAKL) is a subsidiary of the globally respected Hayel Saeed Anam (HSA) Group, which was founded in 1938 and is headquartered in Dubai. Strategically located in the industrial zone of Lukenya, GAKL specializes in the refining and packaging of premium edible oils and fats, alongside the production of high-quality laundry soaps. Its flagship consumer brands—Pika and Avena (edible oils), and Zenta and Super Saba Plus (washing bars)—are trusted names in households across Kenya and the broader region.

As the only foreign-owned edible oil refining facility in Kenya, Golden Africa brings together international expertise and local market understanding, implementing global best practices across all areas of operation. The company’s systems are meticulously engineered to uphold the highest standards of product integrity, consumer safety, and environmental sustainability.

The FSSC 22000 certification, endorsed by the Global Food Safety Initiative (GFSI), is one of the most rigorous and respected food safety management systems globally. It ensures that food products are manufactured under strict hygiene protocols, advanced hazard control mechanisms, and fully traceable systems. This achievement complements GAKL’s existing ISO 9001:2015 certification, reinforcing its reputation for consistency, operational efficiency, and customer satisfaction.

“We are honored to be among the very few food manufacturers in Kenya to achieve the FSSC 22000 certification. This accomplishment reflects our team’s relentless pursuit of excellence and continuous investment in innovation, systems, and training. Above all, it reaffirms our commitment to delivering safe, high-quality products our consumers can rely on,” said Mr. Fathi Saeed, Managing Director of Golden Africa Kenya Ltd.

The certification not only boosts consumer confidence, but also gives retailers, distributors, and foodservice providers the assurance of working with a company that adheres to—and often exceeds—international food safety standards.

Golden Africa’s commitment to quality is further demonstrated by its long-standing partnerships with leading bakeries, restaurants, and hotel chains across Kenya, to whom it supplies premium-grade cooking oils. These collaborations are a strong testament to the trust placed in Golden Africa’s ability to meet the strict requirements of world-class foodservice operators.

Beyond manufacturing excellence, Golden Africa plays a key role in Kenya’s socio-economic development. The company is a major employer, actively investing in job creation, skills development, and sustainable production practices. Its modern production facility features state-of-the-art technology and operates in full compliance with environmental and occupational health and safety standards.

“Earning the FSSC certification is more than an achievement—it’s a responsibility. It cements our position as a leader in the edible oil industry and strengthens our continued commitment to providing products defined by trust, safety, and quality,” added Mr. Saeed Abdo, General Manager of Golden Africa Kenya Ltd.

With a strong foundation built on global standards and a forward-looking vision, Golden Africa Kenya Ltd is well-positioned for sustained growth—driving regional expansion, fostering innovation, and shaping the future of safe and sustainable food manufacturing in East Africa.
