KEMRI and LSTM renew five-year MoU to strengthen global health research and capacity building

Institute (KEMRI) and the Liverpool School of Tropical Medicine (LSTM) have reaffirmed their long-standing collaboration in global health research and capacity building by renewing a five-year Memorandum of Understanding (MoU).

The signing ceremony, held at LSTM’s historic The Kenya Medical Research Pembroke House in Liverpool, by Ag. Director General, Prof. Elijah Songok from KEMRI and LSTM’s Vice-Chancellor, Prof. David Lalloo, highlights a continued commitment to advancing scientific research, strengthening institutional capacity, and improving health outcomes worldwide.

The ceremony was witnessed by the Vice Lord-Lieutenant of Merseyside and the Lord Mayor of Liverpool, the Chairman of KEMRI Board of Directors, Dr. Abdullahi Ali, and the school’s senior leadership including distinguished members of the faculty.

Also present in the KEMRI delegation, were Board Director, Mr. Christopher Marwa, Presidential Advisor on Strategy Execution Ms. Veska Kangogo, and Principal Corporate Communications Officer Mr. Wodera James.

LSTM has been a key partner in KEMRI’s research initiatives, particularly in priority areas such as malaria, maternal and newborn health, and sexual and adolescent health. The institutions also collaborate through the Global Hubs Council, fostering equitable transboundary partnerships that promote knowledge exchange, mutual support, and sustainable development.

The renewed MoU is expected to drive impactful research, enhance institutional collaborations, and contribute to global efforts in tackling pressing health challenges.

Earlier the two parties held collaborative meetings in which several areas of convergence reached before the director and his team were taken for a conducted tour of selected research facilities.
