African Originals, Kenya’s premier cider, gin, and soft-drinks company, has made history as the first gin and cider manufacturer in Africa to achieve the globally prestigious B Corp certification. This recognition celebrates African Originals’ commitment to social and environmental responsibility, placing it in a community of nearly 10,000 businesses worldwide dedicated to balancing profit and purpose.
The company’s rigorous efforts to support smallholder farmers, empower women and young entrepreneurs, and combat waste stand as pillars of its business strategy. African Originals has ambitious goals, such as increasing farm-fresh sourcing by 1.5 times year-on-year, amplifying youth and women’s enterprise investments by 1.2 times annually through initiatives like its ‘She Originals’ workshops, and slashing its ecological footprint by eliminating plastics by 2026 and reducing paper dependence by 2027.
The innovative Nairobi-based business recorded stellar growth with 80 million unit sales in December 2024 and expansion into multiple markets, supported by international investors who contributed $2 million in September 2024.
