Giant killers Kakamega Homeboyz stun Gor Mahia to reach FKF Cup quarterfinals

Reigning champions Gor Mahia have been knocked out of the Football Kenya Federation Cup, after losing 1-0 to Kakamega Homeboyz on Sunday.

The match, held at the Bukhungu Stadium in Kakamega, saw the hosts dominate the game and score the only goal of the match in the 56th minute through Moses Mudavadi.

This result means that this season’s FKF Cup will have a new winner, with Gor Mahia, who have won the tournament a record 11 times, now out of the running.

The FKF Cup, which is open to all football clubs in Kenya, is a knockout tournament that takes place annually. The winner of the tournament qualifies to represent Kenya in the CAF Confederation Cup, the second-tier club competition in African football.

Kariobangi Sharks also secured a place in the quarter-finals after beating FKF Division One side Equity FC by a solitary goal at the Nyayo National Stadium. Sharks’ goal came from Paul Odhiambo, who headed home a cross from Geoffrey Onyango just ten minutes into the game.

Kakamega Homeboyz and Kariobangi Sharks now join Tusker, Ulinzi Stars, and Sofapaka, who made it to the quarter-finals on Saturday.
