Eyebrows raised as Leopards’ Patrick Aussems predicts league winner between Gor and Tusker

After AFC Leopards secured a remarkable victory over bitter rivals Gor Mahia in the recent Mashemeji Derby, Belgium coach Patrick Aussems expressed his hope that Gor Mahia would bounce back and snatch the Football Kenyan Premier League (FKFPL) title from leaders Tusker.

Gor Mahia’s 2-1 defeat to Leopards at the Nyayo National Stadium has left them trailing Tusker by a single point, with only four matches remaining in the season.

Tusker currently sits at the top of the table with 64 points, while Gor Mahia has amassed 63 points after 30 rounds of matches.

The two clubs are scheduled to clash on May 28 in a highly anticipated match dubbed the title decider.

In an unexpected turn of events, Aussems publicly stated his desire for Leopards’ arch-rivals, Gor Mahia, to emerge victorious against Tusker in their upcoming match.

“To be honest with you, I just hope Gor Mahia will get the job done against Tusker next week,” said Aussems.

It seems that Aussems’ support for Gor Mahia over Tusker stems from a strained relationship with Tusker coach Robert Matano.

In April, Matano demanded an apology from Aussems for defamatory remarks the Belgian made about Matano’s coaching credentials.

The tension between the two coaches escalated during a match where Leopards lost to Tusker by a solitary goal in the dying minutes, with Aussems protesting calls in favor of Tusker.

Tusker will face relegation-threatened Wazito, Posta Rangers, and the already relegated Vihiga Bullets. On the other hand, Gor Mahia still has matches against Ulinzi Stars, Kakamega Homeboyz, and Nairobi City Stars.
