Speaking at Rev. Kathy Kiuna’s Daughters of Zion event, Okari delved into his former marriage with TV presenter Betty Kyallo and their subsequent divorce, and the toll it took on him.
The former TV news anchor said the divorce with Betty was so overwhelming that he thought of taking his own life to save himself from the troubles.
“You don’t get married to divorce,” Okari said.
He went on: “At one time I was driving on Mombasa Road and I thought of crashing my car so that I slide into a comma, and by the time I wake up all this shall have passed. I looked for a boulder that used to be on the road but that night I could not see it.”
Okari went on to reveal the shame that came with the divorce, saying as a first born in his family, hew could not explain why he was divorcing when everyone looked upto him.
He said he had several battles to fight, both in private and public, and even spiritually.
He chose to keep quiet, but he was angry and raging, and eventually he found solace in God.
Okari and Betty had a child. They went on to divorce, and Okari has since remarried and has been closer to the church and God than before.
