Transport Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen, on Friday, June 9, revoked the appointment of three board members of the National Transport and Safety Authority (NTSA) barely four months after they were hired.
Those whose appointments were revoked were; Nimo Omar Haji, Charles Nybuti, and Simon Kalekem.
Consequently, Murkomen replaced the trio with Johnson Losilian, Paul Posho, and Lilian Nyabonyi Mogendi.
The new appointees will serve for three years starting June 9, 2023.
However, in his notice, Murkomen did not provide the reason behind the revocation.
In other changes at NTSA, President William Ruto also revoked Aden Noor Ali’s appointment as the board’s chairperson. Ali was replaced with Manoj Shah, who will serve for three years.
“In exercise of the powers conferred by section 6 (1) (a) of the National Transport and Safety Authority Act, I, William Samoei Ruto, President of the Republic of Kenya and Commander-in-Chief of the Defence Forces, appoint Manoj Shah (DR.) to be the chairperson of the Board of Directors of the National Transport and Safety Authority, for a period of three years, with effect from June 9, 2023. The appointment* of Aden Noor Ali is revoked,” read part of the statement.
The new appointees will propose and advise on policy formulation within the public transport sector as board members.
They will also help develop work plans and budgets and oversee the execution of approved directorate work plans.
Additionally, the new board members will devise strategies to reduce road accidents and oversee the performance management of the road agency.
On February 10, Murkomen appointed new board members to help restructure the transport sector in the country.
In the changes made in February 2023, Murkomen also revoked other appointments made by his predecessor James Macharia.
