Chris Musau is one of Kenya’s most successful hotels and wealthiest persons, yet due to his secretive personality, few Kenyans know him.
Musau owns Maanzoni Lodge, a renowned retreat spot in Lukenya, Machakos County.
Prior to entering the hotel industry, he operated the Nova supermarket chain, which included locations in Machakos and sections of Nairobi, including Komarock.
Musau sold Nova supermarket to Naivas since none of his children expressed interest in operating the firm.
“None of my children were keen on taking over operations of Nova Supermarkets in Machakos and Komarock that saw me work for eight straight years starting at 6am to midnight daily,” Musau said.
After selling the retail chain, he developed Maanzoni Lodge, which stands on 28,000 acres of land and has 360 luxurious suites.
Maanzoni Lodge’s proximity to Nairobi City has made it a popular getaway destination for city inhabitants looking to escape the capital’s hustle and bustle.
Musau made waves in 2022 when he bought the 680 Hotel in Nairobi’s city center for an estimated Ksh 1.2 billion.
“The proposed transaction involves the acquisition of the entire issued share capital in Mintea Corp (the target’s parent company) and in Mayhouse (the target) by Maanzoni Lodge Ltd and Christopher Musyoka Musau, resulting in change of control,” explained CAK in the notice.
Musau acquire the entire issued share capital of Mayhouse Ltd which operates the Hotel 680 brand name and leases office and commercial space.
Speaking after the acquisition, the billionaire stated that the hotel would be restored and rebranded as Maanzoni.
He went on to say that part of the makeover would include reclaiming facilities previously leased to other businesses associated with the hotel.
Musau’s main goal is to create a model hotel in the city center that will provide customers with a memorable experience.
