EABL launches caregiver leave policy to champion employee well-being and inclusion

East African Breweries PLC (EABL) has introduced a Caregiver Leave Policy that allows eligible employees to take up to 10 working days of paid leave within a rolling 12-month period. The policy is designed to support staff who need to care for or arrange care for dependents with short or long-term care needs.

This progressive step reinforces EABL’s commitment to building a workplace that prioritizes empathy, flexibility, and holistic employee wellness. The new policy recognises the critical role of employees who are caregivers and provides them the time and space to fulfil these responsibilities without compromising their professional growth or financial security.

The launch of the policy coincides with Mental Health Awareness Month, observed each May, and reflects this year’s theme, “Turning Awareness into Action.” By acknowledging the real-life pressures employees face outside of work, EABL is taking meaningful action to build a more supportive and inclusive workplace culture.

“We believe that well-being goes beyond the workplace. As part of our ongoing commitment to mental health, equity, and inclusion, this new policy is one more way we’re ensuring that our people feel supported in all aspects of life,” said Jacqueline Wanyama, Group Human Resources Director at EABL.

EABL continues to evolve its policies to reflect the changing needs of its workforce, with a clear focus on mental health, flexible working, and family-friendly practices. The company has been recognised for its progressive policies including its Family Leave Policy, Pregnancy Loss Guidelines and Menopause Guidelines, highlighting its leadership in employee care and inclusive people practices.
