Police FC is among eight teams that are yet to pick a win three games into the new Football Kenya Federation Premier League (FKFPL) season.
Yet, the law enforcers were largely expected to be amongst the front runners for the title, including defending champions Gor Mahia and Tusker, thanks to another robust transfer engagement in the just ended window.
Nicknamed Police Saint-Germain in reference to the French big spenders, Paris Saint-Germain, Police splashed out, yet again, in the transfer window – capturing big shots like Kenneth Muguna, Tito Okelo and Tyson Otieno, but results on the field are yet to show.
In the three fixtures, the coach Francis Baraza led side has recorded two draws and a loss.
In their most recent outing at Shabana, the team had to score a late equalizer to pick up a 1-1 draw.
“The players held a meeting on Monday where they reflected on the results, and agreed that they need to give more for the team,” Baraza said.
“It’s not deniable that the results have not been pleasing, but as the technical bench we have given our best, and even the players agree that the ball is in their court to do more and deliver results. I’m happy that they have realized it,” Baraza added.
The departure of prolific striker Elvis Rupia and creative midfielder Duke Abuya to Tanzania Premier League side Singida Fountain Gate just after the new season kicked off, Baraza admits, threw his plans off balance.
“These are top players and ones we had made plans with, but we agreed with the management that so long as we get suitable replacements then we were not going to block their paths.”
To fill in the shoes of Rupia, the league’s top scorer last season with 27 goals, Police roped in South Sudan international Tito Okello, but the former Gor Mahia player is yet to get off the blocks.
“He came late after preseason and so he is yet to gel with the rest of the team, but it’s just a matter of time before he starts delivering,” Baraza said.
Police will next face AFC Leopards, who are also winless so far.
