AFC Leopards, Bandari fire coaches after a difficult start to the new season

AFC Leopards and Bandari FC fired their head coaches on Monday after an unconvincing start to the 2024–24 season.

Ingwe, winless in six matches and second last in the log, fired Tom Juma. He is expected to be followed out of the club by keepers’ trainer Lawrence Webo, fitness trainer Vincent Macheda, and a member of the medical team. Assistant Fred Ambani, video analyst Josh Angati, and Patrick Ngusale, the team doctor, retain their jobs. Juma bid the players goodbye on Monday evening.

Juma was handed the mantle two months ago after the departure of Patrick Aussems. The Belgian coach opted to walk out of the den, and Juma, who was his assistant, took over the reigns. The club registered 20 players during the off-season window, and getting the best out of the group ended up proving to be a difficult task for the former Kenyan international.

Czech coach Tomas Trucha, who in 2020 lasted for a month as Ingwe head coach, is expected to take over as coach. The other positions will be filled in due course before the Leopards’ next match against Bandari in Mombasa.

The Dockers have also made changes to their bench. After yesterday’s 2-0 loss to Bidco United at the Kasarani Annex, the club board met and decided to part ways with veteran coach Twahir Muhiddin. His assistant, John Baraza, will lead the team as the temporary head coach.

“The board met and arrived at the decision; no other member of the technical bench has left. John Baraza will lead the team temporarily before we can make any substantial appointments. We will give him the support he needs and see what he can do as head coach,” club vice chairman Twaha Mbarak told Mozzart Sport.

Muhiddin, who for years served as the club technical director, was handed the reigns at the club in May when Anthony Kimani was shown the door. He was to lead the team until the end of the 2022–23 season. The club tried to bring on board a new coach, but at last ended up handing the role to Muhiddin permanently.

In the six games that he has been in charge of this season, Bandari have won two, drawn one, and lost three.
