The Affordable Housing Board is conducting on-ground outreach and awareness campaigns to help Kenyans understand the process of owning a unit built by the affordable Housing Program across project sites in Kirinyaga, Embu, Murang’a, Laikipia and Nyandarua counties.
These efforts aim to sensitize, inform and engage the public on the availability and benefits of the housing units, underscoring the government’s commitment to ensuring that every citizen understands the importance of the program and the involved processes to own a home.
In its invite to locals in the various counties, the board has urged Kenyans to presently take advantage as the Affordable Housing Board are currently doing home allocations to the qualified applicants eligible to take these homes.
The board’s Ag Chief Executive Officer Sheila Waweru highlighted some of the Affordable Housing Projects (AHP) in the Central region ready for allocation including Gichugu, Nanyuki and Makenji in Kirinyaga, Laikipia and Muranga Counties respectively among many other projects all at different stages of their development.
“We invite Kenyans to purchase these houses that are priced below the market rate. All one needs to do is to log onto the Boma Yangu portal and register their interest as well as start paying for the identified unit. Compared to other offers in the market, these AHP units have a friendly repayment period. Our teams are on ground to support potential buyers in providing any information or assistance they may need regarding these houses. Sensitization campaigns will also be carried out in all regions across the country to educate citizens and potential buyers on the availability of these houses,” said Waweru.
The Bomayangu Portal is the sole avenue that Kenyans eligible for uptake of these units will register their interest, select available homes in the various regions and proceed to saving up for a home, allowing them to be eligible for allocation and finally moving into these homes.
The units, consisting of studios, one-bedroom, two- bedroom and three-bedroom which are all part of the government’s initiative to address the housing deficit in Kenya of over a million units. The program’s plan to build up to 200,000 annually has over 20 mass housing projects underway in different parts of the country that are nearing completion.
Ms. Waweru assured interested Kenyans that the allocations will be conducted through a fair process that will take into account the financial status of every applicant, allowing every Kenyan to spend no more than 30% of their income on their monthly rental obligations.
In addition, these projects have spurred economic activities in the beneficiary towns as demand for building material and housing for construction workers continue to rise. Formal and Informal catering operators have also been reporting handsome sales with local markets enjoying newly found business for food items.
The initiative serves to reflect the government’s strong commitment to enhancing Kenyans’ living standards, underscoring its goal of promoting inclusive development by ensuring the regions’ benefits from affordable and dignified housing solutions.
