Kamau triumphs with 44 stableford points to win Ruiru Sports Club captain’s prize

Handicap 25 golfer, William Kamau, returned an impressive 44 stableford points to emerge as the overall winner of the captain’s prize at the 18-hole Ruiru Sports Club.

Kamau beat a huge field of 270  golfers who converged at the lush course. His closest challenger handicap 18, Wilson Thuo, returned 41 stableford points to be crowned the men’s winner of the day.

“Ruiru has become a cradle of excellence when it comes to golf. Over the years, we have seen tremendous improvements in all aspects of the game. I am happy to be part of this incredible journey that will for sure shape the golfing landscape in the country. Today, I had my swing and my first nine performance was impeccable. Although my second nine was not my best, I managed to pull it off,” said Kamau after his victory.

Gatama Gichini, who plays off handicap 22, returned 40 points to finish as the men’s runner up. In the women’s category, Susan Kanyora (handicap 20) soared high to return an excellent 43 stableford points to bag the prize while Sophie Mbochi handicap 14 finished second with 40 points. Handicap 27 Jane Kanari was third with 39 stableford points.

Speaking during the prize-giving ceremony, former captain James Muraguri said: “I am indebted to everyone who played a pivotal role during my tenure as captain for this amazing club. I am also proud of the incredible achievements we witnessed since I took over. It is my hope that as we move forward, we will usher in new leadership that will steer the club in the right direction. My profound gratitude also goes to the chairman and the leadership team for their guidance.”

Handicap 28 John Baptista returned 22 points to clinch first nine award in the men’s category while Patrick Ngunjiri who plays off handicap 25 returned 24 points to emerge as the second nine winner.

Handicap 23 Mary Wambui returned 21 points to claim the first nine award in the women’s category while Judy Nyambura who plays off handicap 19 returned 21 points to emerge the second nine winner. Bernard Kamau, who plays off handicap 23 returned 39 stableford points to be named the guest winner of the day.

Ruiru Sports Club has been a key driver for junior golf development. During the captain’s prize, junior golfer Shirleen Kariuki who plays off handicap 25 returned 40 stableford points to bag the overall prize, underlining Ruiru’ s growing influence in youth development.
