Kakamega deputy Governor Ayub Savula, who is aligned with Raila Odinga’s Azimio One Kenya Alliance, has told off the former Prime Minister over his planned mass action drive on Thursday.
Speaking on Wednesday, Savula said that the Azimio governors and their deputies will not participate in the protest since President William Ruto’s government was legitimised by the Supreme Court ruling after the August 9, 2022, general elections.
“Don’t expect us at the mass action protest because President William Ruto’s government was legitimised by the Supreme Court ruling after the August 9, 2022, general elections,” Savula said.
He suggested that MPs and senators are the best people to engage in protests as they are the ones who oversight the government.
Raila had announced last week that they will summon all supporters to Nairobi for a major rally and then head to State House to present a petition to President Ruto.
Police have blocked all the roads leading to State House in anticipation of confrontations with Azimio supporters should Raila call for mass action.
However, Raila has remained silent for the better part of the day, and Kenyans are eagerly waiting to see what the Opposition leader will do next.
In the meantime, Azimio la Umoja has accused President Ruto of playing blame games instead of fixing the economy, and they have asked him six questions regarding the state of the country.
If there are no answers, they have threatened to follow up with those tasked with the dockets for answers.
In the midst of this, pictures shared by the ODM party show Raila donning combat uniform, indicating that he could swing into action at any time.
The Orange party tweeted with the caption “Get set” in one of the photos, leaving Kenyans wondering what Raila’s next move will be.
