In a significant show of support, opposition chief Raila Odinga has made a substantial financial contribution to the Kenyan football club, Gor Mahia.

The team, currently vying for the Kenyan Premier League title, received a generous boost of Sh700,000 from Odinga over the weekend.

Gor Mahia finds itself in a fiercely contested race for the league championship, with only three matches remaining.

Trailing leaders Tusker by a single point, Gor Mahia battled to a goalless draw against their rivals on Sunday at the Nyayo National Stadium, in a match attended by Odinga, former Mombasa Governor Hassan Joho, and ICT Cabinet Secretary Eliud Owalo.

After the game, while some Gor Mahia fans and officials sought refreshment at the nearby Kuchekuche Club, Odinga and club chairman Ambrose Rachier joined the players in the dressing room.

There, Odinga delivered an inspiring pep talk, urging the team to continue fighting for the title.

He followed his motivational speech by presenting Sh500,000 to the players and an additional Sh200,000 to the technical bench, with the funds handed over to Gor Mahia captain Philemon Otieno.

This recent financial boost from Odinga comes on the heels of another significant contribution made by President William Ruto, who donated Sh1 million to Gor Mahia following their 2-1 loss to arch-rivals AFC Leopards in the Mashemeji Derby.

In addition, earlier contributions of Sh1 million were made by ICT Cabinet Secretary Eliud Owalo, with Sh500,000 allocated to the current team and another Sh500,000 to Gor Mahia legends.
