Cabinet Secretary for devolution Mwangi Kiunjuri is set to contest for an elective post in Laikipia County.

This is after reports emerged that Kiunjuri had filed his financial records with the IEBC. The former Laikipia East MP and now cabinet secretary confirmed that he had complied with the IEBC rule on Election Campaigns Financing Act before the December 8 deadline.

Mr. Kiunjuri had contested for the Governor’s seat in 2013 butlost to theincumbent Joshua Irungu by more than 40,000 votes.

Among those who have expressed interest in the Governor’s seat in Laikipia are Mburu Kamau, former county secretary John Mwaniki, deputy governor Gitonga Kabugi, James Mathenge, former Foreign Affairs Permanent Secretary Thuita Mwangi, and former assistant Minister Ndiritu Muriithi. They will be seeking to unseat the current Governor, Joshua Irungu.
