A report by the Daily Nation revealed that the party had held a five-hour meeting where they discussed how they would strengthen their support in the Rift Valley Region.

Cherang’any MP Joshua Kutuny who was present at the meeting stated that the DP had failed the Kalenjin Community.

He revealed that moving forward, they would focus on delivering on areas the DP had failed for the region.

“The DP has been lying to the community that he had a plan on how he would take over the leadership of this country and we have realized that he had no plan. We are now focussed on how to take back the region from DP Ruto because he has failed the community,” the publication quoted Kutuny.

He further stated that they would leverage their pact to boost the agricultural sector in the region.

Kutuny noted that the party would look for ways to support the Senate Majority leader together with the whole House leadership moving forward.

On his part, West Pokot Governor Alex Tolgos expressed satisfaction for the ejection of members who were openly defying the president within the party.

KANU Secretary General Nick Salat stated that the meeting was just one in a series of many others, where the leaders would strategize on the party’s political future in regards to the 2022 election.

“Any political party knows that 2022 is coming and it has to prepare and that is what KANU is doing,” he stated adding that the chairman, Baringo Senator Gideon Moi had directed members to slow down on politicking and support the president to complete his term.

Earlier in May, the Jubilee and KANU parties announced that they were formalizing their post-election coalition agreement.

The agreement brought about the appointment of West Pokot Senator Samuel Poghisio, who is aligned to the KANU party, as the leader of the majority in the Senate.

The post-poll coalition deal between Jubilee and KANU was however, suspended by the Political Parties Disputes Resolution Tribunal on May 12 on grounds that the coalition had to be approved by the National Executive Committee of the Jubilee Party and in Strict Compliance of the Political Parties (Registration) Regulations.
