Covid-19 Update: 62 New Cases, 3 Discharges- Total Number Of Cases 1,348

Ministry of Health Chief Administrative Secretary (CAS) Rashid Aman on Tuesday, May 26, announced 62 individuals had tested positive for Covid-19 in the last 24 hours, bringing the total confirmed cases in the country to 1,348.

Speaking during the daily Covid-19 briefing at Afya House, the CAS announced that 2,293 samples had been tested during the period bringing the total samples tested in the country to 64,264.

Of the 62 new cases. 45 were male while 17 females tested positive, 59 were Kenyans and the other three were foreign nationals.

The good news, however, was that three more patients were discharged in the period bringing the total recoveries to 405.

In terms of age, the youngest case to test positive in the last 24 hours was 6 years while the oldest was 64 years.

Nairobi registered the highest cases with 23, Mombasa 16, Kwale 8, Kiambu 6, Kajiado 6, and Kitui 3.

The cases in Nairobi were spread across eight estates with Umoja having 6 cases, Kibra 6, Eastleigh 3, Dagoretti North 2, Lang’ata 2, Westlands 2, Starehe and Embakasi East each had one case.

In Mombasa, the cases were spread in Changamwe 9, Jomvu 3, Nyali 3, Mvita 1 while Kwale had its cases in Msambweni 4, Lungalunga 4.

In Kiambu, the 6 cases were from Lari 5, and Ruiru 1 while in Kajiado the cases were from Kajiado Central 4 and Kajiado East 1. The three cases from Kitui are from Miambani in Kitui Rural.

Aman reiterated the importance of providing accurate details that would come in hand when carrying out contact tracing.

“We have noted a disturbing behavior and a dangerous one at that, this pertains to persons giving false contacts during targeted testing.

“We have talked about this in the last two briefings and I want to reiterate that it is important to provide accurate information because it is only through this that contact tracing is possible,” restated Aman.
