Covid-19 Update: 650 New Cases, 490 Discharged, 4 Succumbed-Total no of Cases 28,754

Kenya has recorded 650 more Covid-19 positive cases in the last 24 hours bringing the total number of cases to 28,754.

During the daily Covid-19 briefing at Afya House on Thursday, August 13, Health CAS Mercy Mwangangi announced that 6,768 samples had been tested over the same period.

Of the 650 cases tested, 391 are male and 259 are female while the youngest case is a 1-year-old and the oldest is aged 97.

The distribution of cases by Counties is as follows; Nairobi (356), Kiambu (58), Nakuru (48) Machakos (26) Kajiado 20) Busia (20) Laikipia (15) Uasin Gishu (15), Bomet (10) Bungoma (9) Migori (7), Mombasa(7), Kisii(7), Tharaka Nthi (6), Murang’a, Narok, Turkana have 5 each.

Cases in other counties are distributed as follows; Kericho (4), Kitui (4), Makueni(4), Samburu (4), Embu (3) Baringo (3), Nandi (3), Kisumu (2), Mandera (2), Marsabit (2) while Isiolo, Trans Nzoia, Nyamira, Elgeyo, Marakwet and Nyeri have a case each.

The CAS stated that the ministry was conducting targeted testing in identified hotspots, both in Nairobi and Mombasa.

“Procurement of reagents and sample collection kits to replenish what has already been used is ongoing and remains a continuous exercise,” she continued.

At the same time, 490 patients had been discharged from hospital bringing the total number of recovered cases to 15,100. 308 are from the home-based program while 182 are from various hospitals across the country.

Regrettably, 4 patients succumbed to the disease bring the total number of fatalities to 460.

So far, the CAS stated, 33 laboratories were conducting Covid-19 testing, both public and private in 12 counties.
