Reports reaching Newsday desk indicate that former head of public service Francis Kimemia has won the governorship race.

Mr. Kimemia beat fellow contestants who included incumbent Governor Waithaka Mwangi.

Unconfirmed tally indicates that he was followed closely by current deputy Governor Waithaka Mwangi Kirika.

The reports say Kimemia garnered 123,456 votes while Kirika got 23,000 votes. The incumbent Governor got 19,607 votes.

Additionally, reports that we are yet to confirm indicate that the county women representative Wanjiku Muhia has fallen behind aspirant Faith Gitau.

The two Women representative aspirants were engaging in a re-run of the 2013 race, in which Ms. Gitau was allegedly rigged out of the TNA ticket.
