Four police officers were on Friday, June 2, arrested for allegedly stealing Ksh373,000 from a businessman near a matatu stage along Charles Rubia Road.

In an account of events recorded under OB number 60/2/6/2023 at the Kamukunji Police Station, it was revealed that the man was heading to board a matatu bound for Narok. The businessman had just been paid the money for supplying meat at Burma Market.

Police indicated that the four plained-clothed officers approached the man before handcuffing him.

The four reportedly arrested him for loitering, conducted a search and discovered the money he was carrying in one of his pockets.

“He was taken through a lane and at a certain point, he was searched and one of the officers stole from him a total of Ksh373,000 which he had been paid as proceeds after selling meat of twelve cows at Burma market at Shaurimoyo.

“The man tried to follow them but they disappeared into the crowd of people,” read the statement in part.

In an attempt to recover his money, the man ran after the officers – a move that proved futile.

He then reported the matter to Kamukunji Police Station where senior officers summoned the four who were on patrol in the area when the incident happened.

The businessman was able to identify one of the officers who eventually gave the identity of his colleagues.

Immediately after, the officers were disarmed and taken to the Kamukunji Police Station for interrogations.

“The officers were disarmed and escorted to Kamukunji Police Station where another officer turned up later when the complaint saw him coming upstairs he also identified another officer to be among the three who had stolen from him.

“All four were searched and no significant money was recovered,” read the statement in part.

Police indicated that the officers were placed under custody even as they investigate the incident.
