A section of the Nairobi–Mombasa Highway at Mlolongo area will remain closed for the next nine days to allow for ongoing construction.

In a statement issued on Tuesday, the Kenya National Highways Authority (KeNHA) said the road will be closed from November 12-20 to allow the installation of the deck of the footbridge in Mlolongo town.

Motorists heading to Nairobi and Mombasa have been advised to use the provided diversions as directed by the signs and Traffic Marshals.

The installation of footbridges along major roads around the city is aimed at easing the movement of pedestrians as well as reduce the rate of highway accidents.

Meanwhile, Mlolongo town is also marked as the start point of the multi-billion Nairobi Expressway project which at the James Gichuru junction in Westlands.

From Mlolongo to Capital Center the road is at the same level as the Existing A8. From the capital Center to James Gichuru, the road will be elevated above the existing A8 road.

President Uhuru Kenyatta launched the Nairobi Expressway project on October 16 and the project is set to take 3 years to complete.
