The affected stations were found to be selling super petrol and diesel contaminated with kerosene. The Energy Regulatory Commission (ERC) on Friday published a list of 37 fuel stations that have been selling adulterated fuel to unsuspecting motorists.
Mombasa County had the highest number of stations selling the illegal fuel, with six petrol stations there closed. The stations are:
- Al-Mursalat (Jomvu),
- Bassawad (Kisauni),
- Swafaa (Kisauni),
- Eagle (Likoni),
- Liwatoni (Ganjoni),
- Gateway Inn (Miritini).
Two fuel stations were closed in Nairobi:
- Realoil service station in Kayole,
- Mwireri Investment filling station in Utawala.
Earlier in March, the following stations had blacklisted for selling adulterated fuel:

- George Araya Mikinduri filling station -Meru
- Rehoboth filling station – Kakamega
- Quality Pteroleum service station – Tharaka Nithi
- Mwanainchi filling station -Kisii
- Togo filling station – Macahakos
- Maningi filing station – Migori
- Uriri filling station – Migori
