Trans Nzoia governor, George Natembeya is continuing to throw verbal punches at Luhya leaders who he feels have been sleeping on the job for years. The former lawman is specifically targeting Speaker of the Nation Assembly, Moses Wetangula, and Prime CS Musalia Mudavadi, claiming the Mulembe Nation’s development has been hindered by their presence.
In his recent round of attacks, Natembeya went hard at Mr. Mudavadi, claiming that the Prime CS first became a minister when President Ruto was a mere high school student, yet he has nothing to show for his many years in politics.
At the age of 33, Mudavadi was appointed Minister of Finance by President Moi. He then went on to hold numerous roles in the former Head of State’s government, including a brief stint as Vice President before the 2002 elections.
In his latest rant, Natemebeya said:
“There is poverty nationwide. However, within the Luhya community, our poverty is largely attributed to the two long-standing government leaders, each with four decades of tenure. When Ruto was in high school, Musalia Mudavadi was a minister in the late former president Daniel Moi’s government. It’s been years and now Ruto, who was in high school, has employed Mudavadi as his cabinet secretary. That is our problem and is the reason why we are asking them to step down.”
Natembeya’s tough-talking nature isn’t surprising as he was once an assistant to the late John Michuki. Under the late minister’s tutelage, he acquired the much-needed connections which enabled him to become a District Officer and later a District Commissioner in Murang’a. As he DC, he became renowned for his expertise in flushing out Mungiki gang members.
Natembeya continued to experience tremendous career growth as he was soon appointed Isiolo County Commissioner. While in the South Rift, he fought hard for the protection of the Mau water towers. Despite facing stiff opposition, he evicted more than 10,000 settlers.
In 2019, he was promoted to the role of Rift Valley Regional Commissioner. He would serve in the position until 2019 when he chose to resign and run for governor.
