List of AFC Leopards icons turned coaches

AFC Leopards, one of the most iconic football clubs in Kenya, has a rich history filled with legendary players who have left an indelible mark on the team’s legacy.

However, what’s even more noteworthy is the fact that some of these legendary players have transitioned into coaching roles and are now making a significant impact as coaches.

One such legend is Robert Matano, who is currently the head coach of league defending champions Tusker. Matano, a former defender for AFC Leopards in the early 80s, has translated his charisma and leadership from the pitch to the dressing room, earning him success with various local clubs, including Tusker.

Known for his emphasis on defensive solidity and motivating his players not to concede a single goal, Matano has won multiple titles, showcasing his managerial prowess.

Another notable figure is Tom Juma, who is currently an assistant coach at AFC Leopards. Juma, a former midfield maestro for AFC Leopards, has seamlessly transitioned into coaching and is known for his tactical acumen and ability to motivate players.

Alongside Juma is Lawrence Webo, another former AFC Leopards player, who is also an assistant coach at the club. Webo is known for his expertise in player development and has been instrumental in grooming young talents at AFC Leopards.

Apart from AFC Leopards, other clubs also have former Ingwe legends as coaches. For instance, Francis Baraza, who was part of the AFC Leopards Hall of Fame, is currently coaching Kenya Police FC and is renowned for his disciplined and organized approach to coaching.

Additionally, Wilberforce Mulamba and John Busolo, former AFC Leopards players, are coaching professionally abroad, showcasing their expertise in football management on an international stage.

These AFC Leopards legends-turned-coaches are not only contributing to the development of Kenyan football through their coaching roles but are also inspiring the next generation of players.
