Former Harambee Stars Legend Henry Motego reportedly turns to Mjengo for a living

Recent unconfirmed reports circulating on social media have sparked speculation about the current circumstances of former Harambee Stars legend, Henry Motego.

According to these reports, Motego is now allegedly working in the construction industry, doing “mjengo” (Swahili for manual labor) in Kasarani, Nairobi for survival.

Despite our attempts to contact Henry Motego for clarification, we were unable to reach him as all his phone calls were unanswered, and it was reported by some close friends of the former Shabana legend that he has been changing his phone number frequently.

Motego, who is considered to be the best footballer to ever come from Gusii Land, had a successful career in Kenyan football. One of his notable achievements was in 1988 when he played a pivotal role in helping Shabana FC gain promotion to the Kenya Premier League, the top tier of Kenyan football.

His skills and talent on the field earned him a reputation as a legendary player, and he was widely admired by football fans in Kenya.

Two years ago, Henry Motego had been appointed by the Kisii County Government as a football coach, as announced by Governor Ongwae.

Motego’s responsibilities included leading efforts to identify and nurture talent, as well as coordinating football activities at both school and club levels.

Expressing his gratitude to Governor Ongwae for the opportunity, the then 48-year-old Motego had stated his enthusiasm to contribute towards the revival of soccer in Kisii County and regain its lost glory in football.

However, the recent social media reports about Motego’s alleged occupation have raised concerns among his fans and followers.

Many are shocked to hear about the possibility of such a celebrated footballer resorting to manual labor for survival.

The reports have generated mixed reactions, with some expressing sympathy for Motego’s alleged situation, while others are skeptical and cautious about the accuracy of the reports
