On August 15, 2020, Baby Talisha saw her life take a turn for the worse after a tragic incident that saw her lose her mother in an accident along Thika Road.
She also suffered severe injuries in the crash that left her hospitalized for weeks.
Her story came to the limelight with a number of Kenyans taking up the cause to raise money for her treatment.
Renowned philanthropist Ndungu Nyoro shared the story on social media as Kenyans contributed Ksh Ksh 1,004,628 in just nine hours of posting with more pledges being made.
“Thank you dear online family for stepping in to show love to the family. Your prayers, words of encouragement, and financial support came through in a big way. The total amount raised in 20 hours is Ksh 1,515,453,” he disclosed.
“Baby Talisha is a fighter. By the grace of God, she has recovered from coma. She is now off the ICU and is recovering from the main ward. She can move her hands and even smiled for the first time yesterday. She is on her way to recovery,” Nyoro assured.
Her father, Faustine Lipuku who was driving the car at the time of the accident has been checking up on his daughter in the hospital.
He narrated that the accident occurred along Thika Road where they encountered stationary vehicles on the road at around 8 pm.
He, unfortunately, rammed into the vehicles after his car’s brakes failed and instantly lost consciousness. His wife and daughter had been thrown out of the car due to the impact of the crash.
When he came to, he tried to look for his family as he pleaded with other motorists to help him.
“I tried to stop other motorists to help me rush my family to hospital but no one responded, all they did was slow down and take pictures of the accident. Luckily, after almost 20 minutes a good samaritan, who later told me he was an Uber driver, took my daughter to the hospital.
“My wife was pronounced dead by ambulance attendants who came to the scene almost an hour after the incident had occurred,” he stated.
His wife was buried a week later at their ancestral home in Busia. Lipuku’s mission now remains nursing his daughter recover back to full recovery.
