How University Student’s Family Identified Their Daughter’s Head Days After It Went Missing

The family of the university student, Rita Waeni, who was brutally murdered, has confirmed that the severed head found in the Kiambaa dam in Kiambu on Sunday belongs to her.

They were able to identify the head based on the shape of the forehead, hair, and arrangement of teeth. This identification was facilitated by forensic pathologists led by the Chief Government Pathologist, Johansen Oduor. The examination of the head is part of the efforts to determine the circumstances of her death on January 13 in a building in the Roysambu area of Nairobi.

The forensic procedure took place in the City mortuary following a previous examination conducted on other parts of the body.

The family had earlier recognized a blouse found tied around the head when it was discovered.

Investigation officials suspect that Waeni’s murder may be linked to ongoing ritualistic activities in the country.

“It appears to be a ritual that I believe was influenced by religious-like beliefs,” said an official familiar with the matter.

The investigative team aims to establish whether there are more murders similar to that of Waeni.

Waeni’s dismembered body was found in an apartment in the TRM area of Kasarani, but her head was missing.

The head was later discovered wrapped in a purple women’s blouse and placed in a green bag containing a stone.
