Nyeri Governor Wahome Gakuru died on a rainy Tuesday morning following a terrible accident at Kabati along the Thika-Sagana highway in Murang’a County.

Murang’a County Commissioner John Elung’ata said Kabati is black spot and motorists lose control whenever it rains.

Police said the governor’s car had four occupants at the time of the crash— him, his personal assistant Albert Kaguru , his body guard Ahmed Abdi and the driver, Mr Samuel Kinyanjui Wanyaga.

Police attributed the crash to a “tyre burst during heavy downpour.”

The tyre burst caused the Mercedez Benz Dr Gakuru was travelling in to lose control, veer off the road and ram into the rail guard which speared through the vehicle, inflicting fatal injuries on the county boss and his aides.

The personal assistant’s right hand and leg are broken and police were still looking for his wrist at the scene of the crash.

The bodyguard’s legs were seriously injured while the driver is okay.

The governor’s body was moved to Lee Funeral Home in Nairobi.
