A Thursday morning fire at Majengo area in Nyeri Town has left dozens homeless.

According to witness reports, the fire started at 3 am at one of the houses in the area before spreading on to to the other houses.

The fire destroyed homes and businesses which included salons and cafes.

Although alarm was raised, the Nyeri County fire fighting truck was not able to get on the scene as it got stuck in a ditch.

The area residents called on the county government to come to their aid after losing nearly all their possessions.
