Kenya has recorded 92 new Covid-19 infections in the last 24 hours, from 2,985 tests, bringing the total number of cases to 36301.
In the daily Covid-19 status briefing, Health CAS Dr. Mercy Mwangangi on Wednesday, September 16, announced that all new cases were Kenyans, except 4 foreigners.
64 are male while 28 are male while the youngest is a 2-year-old child and the oldest is 75.
In terms of the distribution of cases by counties; Nairobi 25, Mombasa 20, Nakuru 8, Garisa 7, Uasin Gishu 6, Kisumu 5, Turkana 4, Kiambu 4, Kakamega 3, Machakos 2, Kajiado 2, Busia 2, Nyeri, Kilifi, Taita Taveta and Tana River all have a case each.
165 patients recovered in the last 24 hours, bringing the total number of recoveries to 23,364. 105 were discharged from hospitals while 60 were from the home-based care program.
“We continue to appreciate the health care system which has gone along way to ensure that the healthcare system remains resilient,” Mwangangi stated.
Unfortunately, three more patients succumbed to the disease, bringing the total number of fatalities to 637.
The Ministry further expressed appreciation to the Ministry of Qatar who donated 30 ICU beds, 3 ICU ventilators that have humidifiers, 10 suction machines, 10 cardiac monitors, 6,000 KN95 masks, 5,000 PPE overalls, 4,000 face shields, thermometers as well as sanitizers.
“Internally, we have set up a donations committee represented here by Dr. Kepha, a distribution list has already been made,” the CAS added.
On his part, Foreign Affairs CAS Ababu Namwamba welcomed the donations and indicated that the equipment would go along way in the fight against COVID-19.
“We also thank our Qatar friend for extending support to Kenyan nationals living in Qatar at the height of this pandemic. Qatar was able to provide food donations to Kenyans in distress in Qatar. Up to 2,000 food packages were received by our embassy in Qatar and distributed to Kenyan nationals, “Namwanda stated.
