Regrettably, 8 patients who succumbed to the disease bring the total death toll to 482. Five of the eight had underlying health conditions.

Nairobi led with 149, followed by Kiambu 23, Kajiado 14, Mombasa 10, Garissa 9, Machakos 9, Nyeri 7, Narok 7, Busia 4, Kilifi 3, Laikipia 2, Murang’a 2 and Kitui 2.

Kisumu, Uasin Gishu, Kwale, and Tharaka Nithi all recorded one each.

During the address, the CAS disclosed that high standards of hygiene were the number one measure for keeping the virus at bay.

“We as the Ministry of Health are impressed by a majority of Kenyans who have taken up the containment measures seriously,” he added.

He further disclosed that 28,538 cases from the caseload, which represents 98%, were local transmissions which meant that the virus was well domiciled in the country.

He further noted that Nairobi and Mombasa had maintained the lead as the two highest attacked areas by the virus.

While appearing before the special Senate committee on Monday, Health CS Mutahi Kagwe maintained that his Ministry could account for all the donations by Chinese billionaire Jack Ma. That was after an uproar from the public following an NTV exposé that claimed a huge chunk might have been misappropriated.
