Malindi MP Aisha Jumwa surrendered herself to the Port Police Station in Mombasa on Sunday.

She told journalists that she is now waiting to be arraigned in court on Monday.

Jumwa is facing charges of misappropriation of Ksh.19million Constituency Development Fund (CDF) cash.

She is alleged to have fraudulently acquired public funds through Multserve Contractors Limited, a company that was awarded a tender for the construction of the Malindi Sub-County Education Office.

“Multserve Contractors Limited received an amount of Kshs. 19,002,000.00/=, out of which Kshs. 2,500,000.000/= was illegally transferred to Hon. Aisha Jumwa Karisa Katana whilst being a Member of Parliament for Malindi Constituency. This amounted to a conflict of interest,” said the Director of Public Prosecution (DPP) Noordin Haji.

According to the DPP, Jumwa concealed the said sums, being proceeds of crime, through depositing an installment towards the purchase of an apartment along Argwings Kodhek Road in Nairobi.

Her six co-accused are Wachu Omar Abdalla (Malindi CDF Account Manager), Kennedy Otieno Onyango Bernard Riba Kai, Sophia Saidi Charo, and Margaret Faith Kalume who are members of the Malindi Tender Evaluation Committee as well as Robert Katana Wanje a Director of Multserve Contractors Limited.

During their arraignment on Friday, the prosecution told the court that Jumwa could not be traced.

The court heard that Jumwa had allegedly switched off all her phone numbers and was not at any of her known residences.

Mombasa Chief Magistrate Edna Nyaloti then ordered that Jumwa surrenders to the police before Monday, August 31.

On Friday, they were charged with 13 offenses including forgery, fraud in procurement, and money laundering.

They however denied the charges and were released on Ksh. 10million bond with a surety of a similar amount with an alternative of Ksh. 5million cash bail each.
