AFC Leopards back in the game as FIFA lifts transfer embargo

AFC Leopards has finally found relief as they have managed to settle all the outstanding payments owed to their former foreign players.

The club has been grappling with paying off millions of shillings owed to the players after they breached their contracts.

This led to several players reporting the club to FIFA, and the club was subsequently slapped with a two-window transfer ban.

The players who took AFC Leopards to FIFA include Soter Kayumba, Shaka Bienvenue, Alex Kouassi, Gideon Waja, and Vincent Habamahoro. This meant that the club could not register any new players until they cleared their debts with the affected players.

However, the club’s Secretary General, Gilbert Andugu, confirmed that they have now cleared all the payments owed to the players. .

This news comes as a big relief to the club, which has been forced to rely on a young squad due to the transfer embargo.

AFC Leopards’ head coach, Patrick Aussems, has been struggling to work with the youthful team, and the lifting of the ban means that he now has a chance to strengthen the team for the 2023/24 season and beyond.

The lifting of the ban also means that AFC Leopards can now compete with their arch-rivals, Gor Mahia, who recently had their transfer ban lifted. Gor Mahia is already active in the transfer market, bolstering their squad ahead of the new season.
