Football Kenya Federation Premier League (FKFPL) side KCB is set to part ways with head coach Zedekiah ‘Zico’ Otieno.

Zico’s contract is understood to have expired this month, and the coach will not continue in his position going forward.

He was appointed by the Bankers in 2019, and although he was brought in to challenge the dominant sides in the top tier, Zico has not entirely managed to do so.

Tusker and Gor Mahia continued with their dominance, with a more ambitious Kenya Police FC and Nzoia Sugar even finishing better than KCB last season. The Bankers ended the season sitting fifth with 64 points.

When he was appointed, the former Gor Mahia fullback said he was confident that he was able to lead the Nairobi club to glory; however, he has yet to win a single title with them.

“This is a very ambitious club, and the administrators want to get to the next level and challenge for titles. So we will have to work hard and maybe change a few things to achieve that. I’m confident,” Zico, who was appointed hours after leaving Gor Mahia, said then.

At KCB, Zico worked with Bramwell Simiyu, who served as the technical manager, Godfrey Solo Oduor, who was his first assistant at the club; and Samuel Macharia, who served as the strength and conditioning coach.

Michael Oyando doubled up as a trainer and team coordinator as Charles Omondi Owour was appointed as goalkeeper trainer.

Since he retired as an active player, Zico has served Gor Mahia as both the head coach and an assistant to several coaches. He has previously managed Harambee Stars, Posta Rangers, and the now-defunct Sony Sugar.

With his expected departure, big names are set to be linked with KCB.
