Why Fred Arocho hurriedly sent a resignation letter to Citizen TV moments after the Radio 47 boss’s stern warning

Kenya’s sports commentator Fred Arocho has left Citizen TV’s Sporty Monday show after four years of service.

In a post on his Facebook page, Arocho shared a thankful message to the management of Royal Media Services for the opportunity they gave him to serve.

He also Arocho extended special regards to several individuals who made his journey memorable, including fellow panellists Mukami Wambora, Steve Shitera, and Zitah Jimoi.

He also acknowledged The Head of RMS Sports Centre, Isaac Swila, for the memorable moments shared at work.

“It’s been four years of great moments at Citizen TV’s Sporty Monday Show! As I sign off, I would like to take this opportunity to thank the management of Royal Media Services for giving me the chance to serve. I also extend my gratitude to fellow panelists Mukami Wambora, Steve Shitera, and Zitah Jimoi. Special thanks to the Head of RMS Sports Centre, Isaac Swila, for the memorable moments at work. I have truly enjoyed every moment of my time here,” Arocho posted.

Behind the scenes, a significant development led to Arocho’s departure. His recent move to TV 47 triggered a chain of events.

Previously associated with Radio Jambo, Arocho transitioned to TV 47 in 2023. However, this shift had implications for his role at Citizen TV.

A source revealed that Arocho was informed that continuing as a panellist on Citizen TV while being associated with TV 47—a direct competitor—posed potential conflicts.

According to reports, the media house responded by increasing Arocho’s salary, enabling him to concentrate fully on his new responsibilities at TV 47.

“Arocho was told by TV 47 that Citizen TV is a competitor, and there was a conflict of interest. So he had to quit the job. His salary was raised to enable him to concentrate on his job at TV 47,” the source claimed.
