In Nairobi, Kenya, the government has cautioned people to get ready for rainfall which could be severe and destructive from October 2026 through to 2027, as meteorological forecasts show a high probability of El Niño conditions occurring.
The Kenya Meteorological Services state that the present ocean and atmospheric conditions indicate a 90 per cent chance of above-average or very heavy rainfall throughout the country.
The officials insisted that panic was unnecessary, but called on the Kenyans, the government bodies and the various communities to stay alert and to take preventive measures in view of the expected rains.
Government officials stated at a media briefing that the message is plain that there is no need to panic but that there are every reasons to get ready early.
Government begins preparations
The government has decided to use a multi-agency approach in order to prepare for the expected rainfall and the possible impact it might have on communities and on infrastructure.
