Who should be Jubilee’s Nairobi Governor candidate among these?

1). Mike Sonko Mbuvi

He is the Senator for Nairobi. He was elected the First Senator of Nairobi after it was announced that, with 808,705 votes, beat his closest competitor, Margaret Wanjiru of the Orange Democratic Movement, who had garnered 525,822 votes. He was born on February 27 1975.

He has announced that he will be going for the Nairobi Governor’s seat using the Jubilee Party ticket. Sonko is known to be generous to the Kenya’s majority poor.

2). Eugene Wamwala

He is the brother of the late Vice-president Michael Kijana Wamalwa. He shot to political fame following his brother’s demise in 2003. The death of his brother and vice president Michael Wamalwa Kijana in 2003 vacated the Saboti MP seat. In the following by-elections, Eugene Wamalwa vied for the seat under little known Republican Party of Kenya (RPK).

The by-election was won by Davies Wafula Nakitare of NARC. was elected to represent the Saboti Constituency in the National Assembly of Kenyain 2007. Eugene is currently the cabinet secretary for water and irrigation. Prior to announcing his candidature for the Nairobi seat, Eugene was expected to contest in Trans Nzoia County for the area’s governorship.

3). Johnson Sakaja

Johnson Sakaja

He is a nominated MP and the TNA chairman. He studied Actuarial Science and is currently pursuing Political Economics. He is 31-years old. Sakaja was also an executive member of Students Organisation of Nairobi University (Sonu). He is married with two kids.

4). Margaret Wanjiru

She is a former televangelist who refers to herself as a ‘Bishop’ at the Jesus is Alive Ministries (JIAM) church. She was elected to parliament on an ODM ticket in 2007 to represent the Starehe Constituency. She risked losing her parliamentary seat after a vote recount carried out in 2010 indicated that her opponent Maina Kamanda (PNU) won the election with a clear margin.

As a result, a by-election was held on September 20, 2010, but Wanjiru retained the seat beating Kamanda. She has since defected from ODM to Jubilee citing betrayal from ODM leader Raila Odinga. In 2013, she wanted to contest for Nairobi governor but she was disqualified due to her unrecognized university degree.
