Man chops wife’s hands because of childlessness in Machakos

A 34-year-old man in Kathama Village, Masii in Machakos County, has chopped off his wife’s hands because they do not have any children. Mr Stephen Ngila Thenge attacked his 27-year-old wife Jackline Mwende on July 24.

Apart from the chopped hands, Ms. Mwende alos sustained serious injuries on her head and neck. According to the Daily Nation, Ms. Mwende and Mr. Thenge had separated for about three months before he descended on her with the attacks.

“I could not understand why he was blaming me yet we had gone to hospital last year and the doctors had said he was the one with issues, which could be corrected,” she said told the Daily Nation at her father’s Kathama home, where she leaves after being discharged from Machakos Level 5 Hospital on Friday. “He moved out of our house three months ago and came back on Sunday (July 24) at around 8.30pm. When I opened the door, he said ‘today is your last day’ and started slashing me with the panga.”

Apparently, her husband had refused to undergo treatment. He was arrested on Monday July 25 at around 1pm in Machakos town hours after he fled his home in Masii.
