A sensational claim has emerged online that Nairobi Senator Mika Sonko was offered Ksh. 1 billion to drop his bid of becoming the next Nairobi Governor.

Apparently, the flamboyant Nairobi Senator was to endorse a certain Jubilee candidate who is being fronted as the most sombre candidate to unseat the current Governor, Evans Kidero. However, Newsday Kenya could not independently verify the alleged claims.

It has been widely assumed that the said preferred candidate is former Gatanga MP Peter Kenneth. Mr. Kenneth formerly announced his bid to become Nairobi Governor over the weekend.

However, the claims have noted that Mike Sonko turned down the offer and stuck to his determination to become the next Governor of the country’s  capital city.

In May 2013, Mike Sonko enrolled for a business administration degree program at Mt. Kenya Universty to meet the basic education qualifications set by the constitution for Gubernatorial aspirants.

Other candidates who have expressed interest in the seat under the ruling Jubilee Part are former Starehe MP Margaret Wanjiru, Dagoretti MP Daniel Waweru, and Johnson Sakaja.
