University buys Sh. 509 city building, plans Sh. 3 billion science park

Chuka University has acquired Sasini House at a cost of Sh. 509 million. The university acquired the Nairobi building owned by billionaire Naushad Merali as part of its expansion program.

The building will now be renamed Chuka Elimu Plaza.

“Demand for higher education across the country has increased. That is why we have embarked on improving our infrastructure,” said Vice Chancellor Erastus Njoka. The university’s Embu campus has 500 students; the Igembe campus has 400 while the new Tharaka campus has 200 students.

Following the acquisition, Chuka University revealed that it will be setting up a science park at a cost of Sh. 3 billion.

“We also want to set up a research centre for the incubation of different innovations, from agriculture to business, and the tender for the project will be awarded soon.”
