Tragedy strikes as former Gor Mahia midfielder collapses and dies on the pitch

Tragedy struck the local football community as former Gor Mahia midfielder Raphael Asudi collapsed and unfortunately passed away during a friendly match between Donholm Seniors and Thika Vitambi FC.

The incident occurred on a fateful Sunday at Thika Stadium, sending shockwaves through the sport and leaving those on the field and in the stands in disbelief.

Asudi, who had previously showcased his skills on the prestigious clubs of Gor Mahia, Sofapaka, Nairobi Stima, Posta Rangers, and Bidco United, was in the midst of playing for Donholm Seniors when the unfortunate incident unfolded.

With an unexpected suddenness, he collapsed onto the ground, losing consciousness and sending a wave of panic and concern among his fellow players and everyone present.

In a heart-wrenching display of solidarity, teammates and opponents alike quickly gathered around the fallen Asudi, frantically calling for immediate medical assistance.

Some attempted to help him regain consciousness, lifting him gently and endeavoring to restart his breathing.

The field, once a battleground for friendly competition, transformed into a scene of desperation as medics rushed to his aid.

For an agonizing 20 minutes, medical professionals worked tirelessly to revive Asudi, who appeared to have suffered a seizure and lay motionless on the grass.

Despite their valiant efforts, their attempts to resuscitate the talented midfielder proved to be in vain.

Asudi’s heartrending journey came to an end at a Thika hospital, where doctors battled relentlessly to save his life.

Regrettably, his heart ceased to beat, and his breath slipped away, leaving a void that will be deeply felt by the football community.

Preliminary reports suggest that Asudi may have experienced a suspected heart attack, a tragic event that cut short a life full of promise and potential.

Two hours after being admitted to the hospital, the devastating news was confirmed: Raphael Asudi had passed away.

“Asudi collapsed on his own and was rushed to the hospital where he was pronounced dead,” confirmed an official from Thika Vitambi FC, who spoke to Pulse Sports on the condition of anonymity.

In the wake of this heartrending incident, the football fraternity stands united, offering condolences to Asudi’s family, friends, teammates, and fans.
