Mystery Over Driver Found Dead in His Car

The family of a taxi driver from Kitengela is currently in a state of distress following the tragic discovery of their relative’s lifeless body inside his car in Kilimani, Nairobi County on Saturday.

Speaking to Kenyans.co.ke on Sunday, August 13, the brother of the deceased recounted the harrowing sequence of events that unfolded. Upon realizing that their kin was missing, the family took it upon themselves to retrace his steps, which eventually led them to the petrol station where the victim had parked his vehicle.

The brother disclosed that the last known conversation the victim had was with his wife in the early hours of Saturday at 3 am. During this call, he shared his discomfort due to stomach issues and heartburn.

In an attempt to alleviate his discomfort, the deceased purchased some milk and medicine. Following this, he embarked on his journey back to his residence in Kitengela.

“After consuming the milk, it seems he may have rested at the petrol station but unfortunately did not regain consciousness. The milk packet and some of the medicine were recovered from the floor of the car,” the brother narrated.

The brother further shared that the deceased’s vehicle is currently under the custody of the Kilimani Police Station. The family will be required to provide the log book before the vehicle can be reverted to them.

“We are in the dark at the moment. We are just waiting for the postmortem to know what killed him because he was not sick,” he remarked.

A colleague of the deceased, who also spoke to Kenyans.co.ke, recounted that the victim had been working late into the previous night before being found dead the following morning.

The colleague went on to explain that the police swiftly arrived at the scene and subsequently transported the body to City Mortuary, marking the beginning of the investigation process.

The postmortem examination is slated for Monday, August 13, with the aim of establishing the precise cause of the unfortunate demise.

The colleague who possessed records of the deceased’s activities, disclosed that in his final hours, the driver turned down a trip, ostensibly due to stomach discomfort.

“We are looking into everything that happened that night including all his trips. It is not fair for the young man to die in such a manner,” the colleague stated.

The colleague further shared that the deceased had toiled for over 20 hours, yet his earnings amounted to only Ksh3,000. Expressing concern, the colleague took the opportunity to decry poor working conditions for digital taxi drivers who he said are compelled to work excessive hours for low returns.

In the midst of this tragic situation, the family and friends of the deceased have made a heartfelt plea to the public. They are seeking assistance in shedding light on the circumstances surrounding the incident and are also requesting financial support for the burial arrangements.
