Standard Media Group Sees Another Senior Journalist Exit Amidst Unresolved Salary Woes

After six years of dedicated service, Mwangi Maina, a prominent foreign affairs journalist, has bid farewell to the Standard Media Group, marking the end of an era in his career journey.

Speaking to a local media house on Tuesday, Mwangi confirmed his departure from the media house, expressing gratitude for the invaluable experience and opportunities he had encountered during his tenure.

Mwangi cited his decision to leave as a pursuit of career progression in alternative avenues within the media landscape.

Throughout his time at the Standard Media Group, Mwangi played a pivotal role in producing daily shows on KTN News Kenya, contributing to both print and digital media platforms within the Newsroom division.

One of Mwangi’s notable achievements was the establishment of “The Diplomat,” a groundbreaking series focusing on diplomacy, foreign policy, and affairs within the African Great Lakes Region.

This innovative show provided viewers with insightful analysis and coverage of critical geopolitical issues.

Despite parting ways with the Standard Media Group, Mwangi spoke highly of his former employer, acknowledging the significant milestones he had accomplished over the six-year period.

“The past six years have been filled with interesting experiences, and I depart with optimism that SG will regain its stability and position,” Mwangi Maina noted.

Mwangi’s journey at the Standard Media Group began in 2018 when he joined as a news producer, gradually ascending the ranks to become a prominent host on the network.

His departure marks yet another significant exit from the media house in recent weeks, amidst a backdrop of financial struggles and industry shifts.

In the wake of Mwangi’s resignation, the Standard Media Group has seen a string of departures, as journalists seek new opportunities and career advancement in alternative media outlets.

The recent exits include Brenda Czeda Radido, who left the station after five years, and business anchor Jimmy Mbogo, who was poached by rival network Citizen TV.
