Deputy President William Ruto has reportedly summoned his allies to his Karen Home to strategize on a number of issues following a crackdown on political meetings in the county.

The DP recently had three of his public rallies halted following directives by the National Security Advisory Council requiring that any large gatherings be approved by Police Commanders.

Ruto’s allies have revealed that the team is looking for legal options to circumnavigate the Public Order Act.

“At the moment, we have instructed a team of lawyers to explore all the available legal options before we can think of other alternatives. We are not ready for any confrontation, which we may resort to at a later stage,” Embakasi North MP James Gakuya revealed.

The team is also considering challenging the new rules in court as explained by Mathira MP Rigathi Gachagua.

“A number of people and institutions, including the Law Society of Kenya, are going to challenge the rules set by the State. This will be a clear case since what the State has done is unconstitutional,” he noted.

The DP is also set to meet with three aspirants for the Msambweni by-election in his office in Nairobi in an attempt to settle on one candidate to challenge ODM’s Omar Iddi Boga in the December 15 election.

The aspirants, Feisal Bader, Bashir Kilalo, and Peter Nzuki are set to travel to Nairobi for the consultation meeting with the DP.

This comes after police stopped a meeting at Diani Reef Hotel on Friday, October 9, that was intended to reach a consensus on who among the three aspirants the DP should support.

Speaking at his Sugoi home on Monday, October 12, DP Ruto stated that it was the responsibility of police to serve all Kenyans equally irrespective of ethnic, political, and social status in the society.

He added that it was unfortunate that police were disrupting some meetings while allowing others to go on uninterrupted.

“It is unfortunate that police cordoned off the venues of Kakamega church functions last weekend while allowing others to go on uninterrupted,” he stated.

He noted the 2010 Constitution empowered police to be independent while discharging their duties, adding that it was wrong for the law enforcement officers to apply the law selectively.

Korir Sing’oei, who is the head of the DP’s campaign strategy revealed that the DP’s team would deploy a number of strategies to hold rallies.

He disclosed that they would use a number of tactics including impromptu visits to market places, weddings, and funerals that would give the DP the advantage of having the element of surprise.
