Kenyans are being asked to “return to their roots” during this year’s media briefing on Mazingira Day. Kenyans were urged to go back to their roots as they celebrate this years mazingira day by donating and planting fruit trees. The annual event will take place nationwide on October 10th, 2025, under the theme “Citizen-Centric Tree Growing and Environmental Stewardship.”

The campaign, called #TurudiPrimo TukadonateFruitTrees na TukacleanEnvironment, encourages every citizen to take responsibility for restoring Kenya’s environment. By revisiting their childhood schools to plant fruit trees and lead clean-up activities, Kenyans will not only beautify the country but also inspire the next generation to care for the environment.

Cabinet Secretaries, Principal Secretaries, and heads of State Corporations will return to their schools, supported by President Dr. William Ruto. The goal is to plant at least 2,000 fruit trees per school. Learners will also take seedlings home to make a bigger impact in their communities.

The Ministry of Environment has teamed up with the National Youth Service (NYS) to provide fruit tree seedlings across the country for an affordable price of KSh 150 each.

Since launching the 15 Billion Tree Growing Programme in 2022, Kenya has planted over 1.06 billion trees nationwide, showing the country’s growing commitment to a greener, more sustainable future.

Mazingira Day 2025 aims to make tree planting a lasting tradition of care, unity, and environmental stewardship.
