CORD Leader Raila Odinga has rubbished a poll conducted by Ipsos Synovate which showed that a majority of Kenyans think he should retire from politics rather than contest for the presidency in 2017.

“It is Jubilee sponsored. They want to tell Cord supporters that ‘your candidate is not wanted by Kenyans’, so that I drop out of the race,” he said. “Why should it be an issue on whether Raila should run or not? It is not an issue at all. I have not even declared my candidature.”

Mr. Odinga added that the final say on whether he should contest or not will be determined by CORD supporters. “I looked at this thing and told myself I know where it is coming from. I was amused about the kind of propaganda it carried. I never complain about opinion polls, negative or positive. I just dismiss it,” he said.

The IPSOS poll had shown that 35 per cent of Kenyans want the ODM leader to retire completely from active politics compared to 34 per cent. Of the 2,067 people polled, 26 per cent were of the view that he should remain active in politics without presidential ambitions.
