A fresh twist has emerged in the case of a Mercedes Benz belonging to KTN anchor Joy Doreen Biira which was stolen and recovered last week.

According to Nation Media Group’s Nairobi News, this is after a KTN editor accused of stealing the vehicle claimed that he and planned to steal the vehicle with Joy Doreen Biira in a police statement.

Aaron Obudho Ochieng’ told the police that the theft had been deliberately planned by Ms. Biira and himself, and that was the reason why he had managed to leave with the car undetected at the Standard Group headquarters along Mombasa Road.

Apparently, he and Joy Doreen Biira had agreed to report the vehicle as stolen, then sell it and use the proceeds to purchase another vehicle while awaiting to get a brand new vehicle from her insurer.

He alleged that Ms. Biira gave him the car keys and told him that the guards at the gate would not stop him. “I drove the vehcile out of the parking lot at around 7.30pm and true to her words, I was not stopped,” he said.

He parked the vehicle around Nyayo Estate and took a motorcycle back to the Standard Group head offices where he informed Ms. Biira that he had safely hidden the car.

After the 10pm news, Mr. Ochieng’ went and drove the vehicle to his home. He claimed that he was forced to change the vehicle’s number plates because Ms. Biira had already reported the vehicle missing and yet he had to use it fr his Christmas trip upcountry.

Ms. Biira’s statement, though, contradicted Mr. Ochieng’s. According to Ms. Biira, she had left her car keys at her desk and only realized that they were missing after the 9pm news concluded.

She asked her colleagues if they had seen her car keys or seen someone take them to no avail. She walked out to check on her car and found that it was missing from the spot where she had parked it. Instead, another car was parked there. She called the police and reported the theft on December 23.
